Often we do not know what it is we want to say before we have someone to say it to:
Because understanding is not something that is, but something happens - an encounter.
Wonder and fascination is my motor and GPS. " I explore and play, let me inspire and sometimes scare. As an explorer I cataloging my findings in an archive. The archive then forms the basis for the work, which therefore becomes personal, but not necessarily private.
Nature and our relationship to nature, both for me personally and in general, is the driving force in my work. I am an Biophil.
Biophilia was by the biologist Edward O. Wilson in 1984 described as "the innate Tendency two focus on life and lifelike Processes" in the book of the same name. "Our existence depends on this propensity, our spirit is woven from it, hope rises on its currents." According to Wilson, we are all more or less biofile by virtue of being human.
My project then is this: to appreciate and investigate in to the strange, intricate, thought-provoking, beautiful or frightening in nature. Ponder on shapes, colors and functions, and then to transform and inject impressions and reflections back into the world through my work.
In this way I wish to share my Biofilia
Without people to create and experience meaning in my work, all I've done is just processed matter. Therefore, I work mostly with the three-dimensional expressions in jewelry and installations, sometimes in combination, because both genres, in different ways, actively address the body and sensory experience.
With a background in metalart, jewelery and costume design, I would describe my work as various meetings between these disciplines. The exploration of materials and techniques form a major part of the work process.
I thrive in this borderland. Some times border is just another word for an encounter.
